COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

RECOMMENDATION

Please place a referral on the April 23, 2025, City Commission agenda to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee to discuss landscaping, lighting, and safety concerns at the green space located on Sunset Islands 1 and 2.

Landscaping Concerns: • The hedges near the entrance require regular maintenance to keep them neat and welcoming for visitors. • A better storage solution is needed for the electrical posts to improve the overall appearance of the area. • Adding more plants along Sunset Drive would visually enhance the area. • The coconut palms in the green space pose a safety risk due to the potential for falling coconuts. I’d like the committee to explore possible remediation options for this issue.

Lighting Issues: • Ongoing concerns regarding the lighting in and around the green space. I request that Public Works check for any broken or burnt-out bulbs and replace them to maintain a well-lit and safe area, especially in the evenings.

Addressing these concerns are important for keeping the green space safe, functional, and attractive.
