COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

RECOMMENDATION

Please place on the May 21, 2025 agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee to discuss potential implementation of a text message notification system that would alert residents and property owners when they are next in the queue for a scheduled building inspection on a given day.

Currently, residents and contractors awaiting building inspections are often left uncertain about when inspectors will arrive, resulting in potential inefficiencies, missed inspections, and unnecessary waiting. A real-time text notification system could enhance communication, improve scheduling transparency, and increase overall satisfaction with the inspection process.

I would like for City Staff to be ready to explore the feasibility, cost, and logistics of implementing such a system—including integration with existing inspection scheduling platforms—and provide recommendations to the Committee for further consideration.
