COMMISSION MEMORANDUM
RECOMMENDATION
BACKGROUND/HISTORY
ANALYSIS
I would like to have a discussion with my colleagues regarding the recent and concerning uptick in car thefts from certain areas located within the City of Miami Beach. This trend has raised significant safety and quality-of-life concerns among residents, and I believe it warrants urgent review and action by the City Commission and Administration.
The Administration should be prepared to provide an overview of any recent data collected by the Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) regarding reported auto thefts in the area, including comparisons to prior months or years, if available. Additionally, I would like to hear about any patterns or intelligence the Department may have identifiedβsuch as time of day, vehicle types, or methods of entryβand any coordinated efforts currently underway with other jurisdictions or law enforcement agencies.
The primary goals of this discussion are (1) to better understand the scope of the problem, (2) evaluate existing police response strategies and neighborhood patrol, and (3) determine whether additional resources or policy changes are needed to support enforcement and deterrence efforts.
