COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:
Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:
Mayor Steven Meiner
DATE:
May 21, 2025
TITLE:
DISCUSSION/UPDATE REGARDING FDOT IMPLEMENTATION OF RECOMMENDED IMPROVEMENTS AT INDIAN CREEK / 41ST STREET INTERSECTION.

RECOMMENDATION

BACKGROUND/HISTORY

Previously, I sponsored Resolution No. 2021-31905 (attached hereto) reaffirming the City Commissionโ€™s support for the recommended traffic operation and pedestrian safety improvements at the intersection of Indian Creek Drive and 41st Street pursuant to the Cityโ€™s comprehensive traffic study. Furthermore, Resolution No. 2021-31905 urged the Florida Department of Transportation (โ€œFDOTโ€) to expedite the implementation of the recommended improvements, including two (2) southbound right turn lanes at the intersection of Indian Creek Drive and 41st Street in an effort to improve traffic flow, while ensuring a safe pedestrian crossing with proper signalization at the intersection.

As such, I would request that the City Administration be prepared at the February 1, 2023 City Commission meeting to provide an update as to FDOTโ€™s action(s) taken since that time pursuant to the Resolution, and advise if any further City Commission action is necessary in order to further expedite implementation of this important initiative.
