COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:
Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:
Mayor Steven Meiner
DATE:
June 25, 2025
TITLE:
DISCUSS/TAKE ACTION: ONGOING CONCERNS REGARDING CERTAIN COMMERCIAL VESSEL OPERATORS.

RECOMMENDATION

Residents of the South of Fifth neighborhood, including those living in buildings adjacent to the Miami Beach Marina (โ€œMarinaโ€), have expressed serious concerns over recurring issues at the Marina and Baywalk, much of which arises from charter boat activity. For the past few years progress had been achieved through legislative initiatives by the Mayor and City Commissionโ€” such as restricting the hours for commercial vessel departures and arrivalsโ€” and enhanced enforcement efforts by Code Enforcement and the Miami Beach Police Department. More recently, residents have informed us of concerns with large numbers of rowdy and disruptive charter patrons negatively impacting their quality of life.

In light of the new legislation on this agenda, sponsored by Commissioner David Suarez, which aims to further empower Code Enforcement officers to tackle rogue commercial operators, I propose we have a discussion to explore additional measures that can be implemented by the Marina operator Suntex and the city to effectively address this pressing issue.
