A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO REMOVE FLAMINGO PARK (PARK) FROM FURTHER CONSIDERATION AS A SITE FOR THE RELOCATION OF FIRE STATION NO. 1; RECOGNIZING THE PARK’S OVER 100-YEAR HISTORY AS A RECREATIONAL AND HISTORIC GREEN SPACE LOCATED WITHIN A HISTORIC DISTRICT MAKING THE PROPOSED FIRE STATION’S SCALE, USE, AND IMPACT INCOMPATIBLE; ACKNOWLEDGING THAT INTRODUCING INDUSTRIAL INFRASTRUCTURE SUCH AS A FIRE STATION WOULD COMPROMISE THE PARK’S CHARACTER, SET A TROUBLING PRECEDENT, AND CONFLICT WITH THE PARK’S RECREATIONAL PURPOSE; AND DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO IDENTIFY AND PRIORITIZE ALTERNATIVE LOCATIONS FOR THE NEW FIRE STATION THAT MEET THE CITY’S CRITICAL PUBLIC SAFETY NEEDS WITHOUT SACRIFICING THE INTEGRITY OF FLAMINGO PARK.
