RECOMMENDATION
BACKGROUND/HISTORY
Please place on the September 3, 2025 agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee to explore the feasibility of using temporary structures, such as mini-parks, pop-up seating areas, planters, shade elements, or other modular amenities, to activate underutilized public spaces, with a focus on underserved neighborhoods.
We have many public spaces in the City that remain under-activated or are used only intermittently. Temporary, low-cost interventions can quickly transform these areas into vibrant community gathering spots, encourage foot traffic, and foster social interaction. Depending on the activations, it can also serve as pilot project to test potential long-term improvements.
