COMMISSION MEMORANDUM
RECOMMENDATION
BACKGROUND/HISTORY
Please place the above item on the City Commission meeting agenda as a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee (โPSNQLCโ).
I would like the PSNQLC to discuss creating a structured and accessible forum to allow City residents to regularly submit and discuss ideas to improve our urban environment. This could include both a digital platform as well as in-person community events. Civic technology is the use of digital technology to enhance interactions between people and government. A dedicated โcivic techโ forum would allow residents to provide valuable insights into how we can improve the Cityโs public spaces, infrastructure, mobility, and quality of life. This would promote access to City government, enhance transparency, and foster creative problem-solving between residents and City staff.
As part of this referral, I ask that the PSNQLC look at initiatives like the โGive a Minuteโ campaign deployed in Chicago in 2010, and any similar civic technology models that could enhance public engagement in Miami Beach.
