COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:
Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:

TITLE:
REFERRAL TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY AND NEIGHBORHOOD QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE - PROPOSED NORMANDY ISLE NEIGHBORHOOD ENTRANCE SIGNS AT THE NORMANDY FOUNTAIN AND ON THE WESTERN END OF NORMANDY DRIVE/71ST STREET.

RECOMMENDATION

BACKGROUND/HISTORY

ANALYSIS

Please place the above item on the City Commission meeting agenda as a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee (β€œPSNQLC”).

I would like the PSNQLC to consider a request by a group of Normandy Isle residents to install two neighborhood entrance signs along Normandy Drive/71st Street. One monument sign is proposed at the eastern end of the neighborhood, near the Normandy Fountain; and the other monument sign is proposed on the western end of Normandy Drive/71st Street.

As part of this request, I would like City staff and the PSNQLC to identify appropriate locations for the signs, taking into account the city’s North Beach Entrance Sign project, which is currently in the permitting phase.

Given that Normandy Drive/71st Street is a state road, I also request that the Administration engage the Florida Department of Transportation (β€œFDOT”) on this proposal. Any entrance sign, monument, or feature within a state right-of-way requires coordination and approval from FDOT.

Lastly, I ask the City Administration to advise what other steps may be required, including approval by the Design Review Board, neighborhood outreach, and any design requirements that may apply.
