COMMISSION MEMORANDUM
RECOMMENDATION
BACKGROUND/HISTORY
The presence of police officers outside of their vehicles is crucial for creating a safer and more connected community. To that end, I, along with my co-sponsor Commissioner Joseph Magazine, sponsored Resolution No. 2024-32996, which directed the Police Department to increase police visibility in the City and was unanimously adopted by the City Commission at its April 3, 2024 meeting. Then, on July 24, 2024, I sponsored Resolution No. 2024-33212, which directed the City Administration to increase police visibility by ensuring that police officers stand outside of their vehicles and further directed the City Administration to take any necessary steps to ensure the effective implementation of Resolution No. 2024-32996.
Accordingly, I would request that the Administration be prepared to present the City Commission with a detailed update on the implementation of Resolution No. 2024-32996 and Resolution No. 2024-33212, including any policies, practices, procedures, directives, or other measures established in order to effectively implement these Resolutions. Additionally, I would like to discuss the implementation of these Resolutions with my colleagues so that we may take any further actions necessary to ensure that the will of the City Commission, as expressed in Resolution No. 2024-32996 and Resolution No. 2024-33212, is fulfilled.
