RECOMMENDATION
BACKGROUND/HISTORY
At the request of Commissioners Tanya K. Bhatt and co-sponsor Commissioner Laura Dominguez, please place on the September 17, 2025 agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee to consider a relocation of the historic log cabin to its original site on the West Lots.
As the City moves forward with the reconstruction and restoration of the Log Cabin, the sponsors would like to propose relocating of the historic log cabin structure to its original site on the West Lots. The current proposed location in North Beach Oceanside Park is not ideal, as the area is known for persistent issues with homelessness, which could be exacerbated by the presence of the cabin. Additionally, lighting from the structure may interfere with sea turtle nesting, and the park’s vulnerability to storm surge poses a significant risk to the cabin’s preservation.
