COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:
Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:
Commissioner Tanya K. Bhatt
DATE:

TITLE:
REFERRAL TO PUBLIC SAFETY AND NEIGHBORHOOD QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE – DISCUSS FUTURE USE OF THE PROPERTY AT 7501 COLLINS AVENUE, CURRENTLY THE SITE OF THE NORTH SHORE BRANCH LIBRARY, AS A PUBLIC PARK, ONCE THE LIBRARY IS RELOCATED TO THE PROPOSED 72ND STREET COMMUNITY CENTER.

RECOMMENDATION

BACKGROUND/HISTORY

Please place on the City Commission meeting agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee (β€œPSNQLC”) to discuss the future use of the property at 7505 Collins Avenue, which is currently the site of the North Shore Branch Library, as a public park.

As the City moves forward with plans to relocate the North Shore Branch Library to the proposed 72nd Street Community Center, I would like the PSNQLC to discuss designating the existing library site as a public park once the relocation is complete.

The discussion should include: β€’ The potential designation of the site as a permanent park space. β€’ Community programming options for the park, including the feasibility of incorporating a splash pad or other family-friendly amenities. This referral is intended to ensure early community input and coordination between City departments, as the City plans for the future of this important public property.
