COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:
Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez
DATE:

TITLE:
REFERRAL TO THE FINANCE AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCY COMMITTEE AND PUBLIC SAFETY AND NEIGHBORHOOD QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE – EXPLORE THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) TECHNOLOGY AND PRE-FRABRICATED CONSTRUCTION TO BUILD WORKFORCE HOUSING ON A CITY-OWNED PROPERTY.

RECOMMENDATION

BACKGROUND/HISTORY

Please place the above item on the City Commission meeting agenda as a dual referral to the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee (β€œFERC”) and the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee (β€œPSNQLC”).

I would like the FERC and PSNQLC to discuss the potential use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and pre-fabricated construction techniques for the development of workforce housing on City-owned property.

As the City continues to address the critical need for affordable and workforce housing, emerging technologies present new opportunities to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and accelerate delivery timelines. AI-driven design and planning tools, when paired with pre-fabricated construction methods, may offer scalable solutions that align with the City’s resiliency and sustainability goals.

As part of this referral, I would like the City Administration to be prepared to discuss any procurement and land-use approvals that may be required.
