COMMISSION MEMORANDUM
RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends adopting the resolution to authorize the City Manager and City Clerk to execute a sponsorship agreement with the Miami Design Preservation League, Inc. in the amount not to exceed $150,000 for the 2026 Art Deco Weekend event.
BACKGROUND/HISTORY
The City of Miami Beach began sponsoring the Miami Design Preservation League’s (“MDPL”) Art Deco Weekend event, beginning in Fiscal Year 2018.
On October 18, 2017, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2017-29893 to fund the 2018 event in the amount of $100,000.
On October 17, 2018, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2018-30512 to fund the 2019 event.
On October 16, 2019, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2019-31004 to fund the 2020 event.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no event was held in Fiscal Year 2021. On October 13, 2021, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2021-31872, resuming sponsorships of the event, by approving $100,000 to fund the 2022 event.
As part of the City’s ongoing support for established cultural events, the City increased its sponsorship to $150,000 beginning in Fiscal Year 2023, as approved by Resolution No. 2022- 32334 on October 26, 2022. This enhanced funding level was reaffirmed through Resolution No. 2023-32850 on October 18, 2023, for the 2024 event.
On September 25, 2024, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution 2024-33294 which included sponsorship funding for the 2025 Art Deco Weekend event in an amount not to exceed $150,000 ("City's Contribution").
The 2025 sponsorship agreement waived all special event fees related to the event, which included the application and permit fees, vehicle beach access pass fees, square footage fees, Lummus Park user fees, and provided funding in an amount not to exceed $150,000, to be paid directly by the City Administration to the City of Miami Beach for Police off-duty fees, Fire off-duty fees, Parking meter fees, and other City service costs associated with the Event, including the Event’s marketing needs. The agreement required MDPL to provide a final report including, but not limited to, marketing and media efforts, audience attendance and demographics, and details of public benefit.
For the 2026 event, the MDPL sponsorship request from the City remains unchanged from the previous two (2) years at $150,000, which includes a waiver of special event fees.
On September 30, 2025, the Mayor and City Commission adopted the FY 2026 budget that included the requested funding for the 2026 Event series in the Resort Tax Fund.

Art Deco Weekend has been the premier celebration of Miami Beach’s unique architectural heritage for over four decades, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. While the event continues to flourish in cultural programming, performances, and lectures, recent years have shown that food and beverage offerings have not reflected the caliber of Ocean Drive’s renowned dining scene.
For 2026, the Ocean Drive Association (ODA), in collaboration with MDPL, is proud to present a new and revitalized dining program, Art Deco Taste of Ocean Drive, for the annual Art Deco Weekend.
ODA’s proposed An Art Deco Taste of Ocean Drive is expected to elevate the festival experience, enhance the brand of the destination, and provide both locals and visitors with a true taste of Miami Beach’s most iconic street. This event has the potential to become a landmark annual collaboration between MDPL, Ocean Drive, and the City of Miami Beach, anchoring Art Deco Weekend with a culinary experience that is as memorable as its architecture and entertainment.

Will provide options for packaged to-go meals for guests enjoying Art Deco Weekend performances, lectures, and activations by optionally, activating a fast- food cart for affordable grab-and-go dining. Operate a Taste of Ocean Drive branded bar, serving a pre-set menu of alcoholic beverages with standardized pricing and sizes, and featuring a signature cocktail sponsored by a liquor partner.

o
Just over 30 Ocean Drive restaurants are currently participating in New Year’s Eve programming, and the expectation is to achieve full participation for Art Deco Weekend 2026 as well.
