A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO INCREASE POLICE VISIBILITY AND PRESENCE ALONG NORTH BAY ROAD, AS OPERATIONALLY FEASIBLE, IN RESPONSE TO HEIGHTENED REPORTS OF SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY AND POTENTIAL PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERNS IN THE AREA.
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach ("City") are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, visitors, and businesses within the City; and
WHEREAS, the City has received increased reports of suspicious activity and public safety concerns along North Bay Road, creating apprehension among residents and impacting quality of life; and
WHEREAS, enhanced police visibility and proactive patrols serve as an effective deterrent to criminal activity, and provide reassurance to the community that public safety remains a top priority; and
WHEREAS, at least since the current Chief of Police assumed leadership of the Miami Beach Police Department, the Department has maintained a dedicated patrol vehicle assigned to North Bay Road during every shift, reflecting the Chief's commitment to consistent neighborhood coverage and proactive policing; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of increasing police visibility and presence on North Bay Road is to promote a stronger sense of safety, discourage unlawful behavior, and potentially foster greater community trust and cooperation between residents and law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, it is anticipated that through these increased police patrol efforts, whether by vehicle, foot, or bicycle, residents will experience an improvement in their sense of safety, security and peace of mind; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to direct the City Administration to take appropriate action to increase police visibility and patrol presence, along North Bay Road, whether by vehicle, foot, and/or bicycle patrols.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED THAT THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, hereby direct the City Administration to increase police visibility and presence along North Bay Road, as operationally feasible, in response to heightened reports of suspicious activity and potential public safety concerns in the area.
