COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:
Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:
Commissioner Laura Dominguez
DATE:
December 17, 2025
TITLE:
DISCUSS/TAKE ACTION – ADDRESSING THE LOSS OF ON-STREET PARKING IN THE FLAMINGO PARK NEIGHBORHOOD DUE TO CURRENT ROAD DESIGN.

RECOMMENDATION

BACKGROUND/HISTORY

ANALYSIS

Residents and stakeholders in the Flamingo Park neighborhood have raised concerns regarding the significant reduction in available on-street parking resulting from recent road design changes. These changes—intended to improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety, or other infrastructure goals—have inadvertently created a strain on residential parking availability, particularly in an area already challenged by high density and limited off-street options.

The loss of on-street parking has impacted residents’ quality of life, increased competition for limited spaces, and may be contributing to increased traffic congestion and frustration. Additionally, it may have implications for local businesses, service access, and emergency vehicle navigation.

Accordingly, I would like to discuss and take action with my colleagues to evaluate the current road design’s impact on parking availability in the Flamingo Park neighborhood. The Administration should be prepared to discuss a review of the original design intent, current parking data, and potential mitigation strategies such as re-striping, angled parking, or other creative solutions that balance safety and accessibility with the community’s parking needs.
